The Western Cape Department of Health is inviting qualifying students to apply for Bursary Programme 2022 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the Health Science sector, an area of identified skills shortage in South Africa, specifically at these institutions, in these fields:

University of Western Cape:

  • Clinical Psychology (Masters)
  • Dentistry (Degree)
  • Nursing (Bachelors Degree)
  • Occupational Therapy (BSc)
  • Oral Hygiene (Degree)
  • Pharmacy (Bachelors Degree)
  • Physiotherapy (BSc)

University of Cape Town:

  • Medicine (Degree)

Cape Peninsula University of Technology:

  • Emergency Medical Care (Bachelor of)
  • Nursing (B Tech)
  • Radiography in Diagnostic (BSc)
  • Radiography in Nuclear Medicine (BSc)
  • Radiography in Ultrasound (BSc)
  • Radiography in Therapy (BSc)

University of Stellenbosch:

  • Medicine (Degree)
  • Physiotherapy (Degree)
  • Speech Therapy (Degree)

Western Cape College Of Nursing:

  • Nursing (Diploma R425)
  • Nursing (Diploma R171)
  • University of Pretoria:
  • Medicine (Degree)

University of Free State:

  • Medicine (Degree)

University of the Witwatersrand:

  • Medicine (Degree)

North West University:

  • Nursing (Bachelors Degree)
  • Pharmacy (Bachelors Degree)

Students will be required to submit proof of registration at one of the approved institutions at the start of the 2023 academic year. Students must also submit all annual or supplementary exam results, within 30 days after receiving them.

After graduation, bursary recipients will be required to work for the government – the employment duration is one year of work for each year of funding received.

Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

You must be a South African citizen

You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric

You must reside within the Western Cape province

You must be studying or accepted to study at one of the approved tertiary institutions listed above

You must be studying or accepted to study full time towards studies in one of the Health Science fields listed above
