The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) is the legislature of the Western Cape province of South Africa and is part of the Western Cape Government.
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament consists of 42 members elected by a system of party-list proportional representation.
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament is located at 7 Wale Street in Cape Town.
The Western Cape is different from the other provinces of South Africa in calling its legislature the “Provincial Parliament” and the members Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). The other provinces use the terms “Provincial Legislature” and “Members of the Provincial Legislature”.
The Seventh Provincial Parliament of the Western Cape province was elected on 29 May 2024 in South Africa’s 2024 general elections. A majority of the members belong to the Democratic Alliance.
The vision of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament is to be the leading regional parliament, rooted in Africa – innovative, forward-looking and in touch with all its people.
In pursuance of the vision, the administration of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament commits to serve, support and strengthen the institution by:
- Facilitating the constitutional mandate of law-making, public participation and oversight in the interests of the people of the Western Cape
- Empowering its members and staff to function optimally
- Being professional and innovative in its processes and work, while fostering ethical and good governance
- Promoting the institution provincially, nationally and internationally.
