The Western Cape Department of Local Government is the department of the Western Cape Government responsible for promoting good governance in local municipalities to enhance municipal service delivery to all communities within the Western Cape province of South Africa.
The Department of Local Government supports and strengthens the capacity of municipalities to manage their own affairs.
The Department’s most important role is to address the challenges facing society on local level, especially as local government is the sphere of government closest to the people; this is where the need for service delivery for residents is both visible and immediately expected.

To be an efficient and dynamic team that enables developmental and well-governed municipalities to deliver services to communities in a responsive, sustainable, and integrated manner.
Mission
To monitor, co-ordinate and support municipalities to be effective in fulfilling their developmental mandates and facilitate service delivery and disaster resilience through engagement with government spheres and social partners.
