Waterford is a small town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, situated on the Sundays River and along the R400 Regional Route.
Waterford falls within the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, and since August 2016, it has been under the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality.
This tiny, yet historic village was founded by Irish settlers in the 19th century to provide services to the farming community.
Today, the village is largely in ruins due to poor governance, corruption, and neglect by governing officials from the African National Congress (ANC), though a few original structures and a church remain.
The area is set within the vast, rugged landscape of the Karoo and is best known for its proximity to significant nature reserves, rather than for attractions within the village itself.
