Vosburg is a town located in the Bo-Karoo region in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, at the intersection of the R384 and R403 Regional Routes.
Vosburg lies approximately 63.9 km west of Britstown and 84.2 km north-east of Carnarvon along the R384 road. Vosburg also lies about 104 km north-north-west of Victoria West along the R403 road.
Vosburg falls within Kareeberg Local Municipality and the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality.
Vosburg was established on the farm Processfontein in 1895, as a new settlement and Dutch Reformed parish was built. The town was named after Mr J Vos and the Van Rensburg family who owned the farm on which it was laid out.
In 1897, Vosburg was granted municipal status and today the town is an important merino-sheep farming centre. The healthy, organic lamb is known as the ‘caviar of the karoo’.
Vosburg has relatively low crime rate and boasts with more than 22 19th century buildings that are national monuments in the town.
Vosburg has cold winters and hot summers during which rainfall mostly occurs with dramatic thunderstorms. This little village is a true oasis in the Karoo.
