About
Victor Khanye Local Municipality (formerly Delmas Municipality) is geographically located in the southwestern part of the Nkangala District Municipality in the Highveld of the Mpumalanga Province.
The Victor Khanye Local Municipality is named after Victor Khanye, an activist of the African National Congress in the anti-apartheid campaign.
The municipality covers an area of 1,568 km² (605 square miles) making it the second-smallest local municipality in the Nkangala District.
The administrative headquarters/seat of Victor Khanye Local Municipality is in Delmas.
The municipality is divided into 9 wards.
The local municipality was one of the four to have passed the 2009-10 audit by the Auditor-General of South Africa, who deemed it to have a clean administration.
Victor Khanye Local Municipality is bordered by:

Strategically positioned on the border of Gauteng Province, Victor Khanye Local Municipality is less than 100 kilometres from major cities such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Emalahleni, making it a central hub for commerce and transportation.
The municipality is well-connected by a major freeway, the N12, which is a key route in the Maputo Corridor, a vital route for trade and transport.
Additionally, a railway line runs through the municipality, connecting the inner Mpumalanga province to Mozambique. This strategic positioning has earned the municipality the title of a gateway to the inner Mpumalanga Province.
Victor Khanye Local Municipality is a key player in regional development, providing critical infrastructure and acting as a conduit for economic growth in Mpumalanga and beyond.

According to the South African National Census of 2022, Victor Khanye Local Municipality has a population of 106,149 people, compared to 84,151 in 2016, and 75,452 in 2011.
The municipality has a population growth per annum of 3.31%.
According to the 2022 Census, 25.4% of the population is under the age of 15, 70.5% is between 15 and 64, and 4.1% is over 65.
