Vanderkloof is a holiday resort town located on the Orange River and near the Rolfontein Nature Reserve in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, near the Free State provincial border.
Vanderkloof falls within Renosterberg Local Municipality and the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality.
The town was named after the farm on which the Vanderkloof Dam is situated, 9 km north-east of Petrusville. The town of Vanderkloof was established to house the people building the dam. The name is derived from the surname of Petrus J van der Walt, and a ravine (Afrikaans kloof) in the vicinity.
The Vanderkloof Dam is situated approximately 130 km down stream from Gariep Dam, and is fed by the Orange River, South Africa’s largest river. Vanderkloof Dam is the second largest dam in South Africa.
Today, Vanderkloof it is a flourishing holiday resort. It boasts the highest dam wall in the country (108m) and links the Northern Cape to the Free State.
