The University of Venda (UNIVEN) is a public university situated in Thohoyandou in the scenic Vhembe district of the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
The University of Venda was established in 1982 under the then Republic of Venda government.
UNIVEN has over time experienced tremendous growth and change, making it to the Top 11 among 88 Sub-Saharan Africa universities in the 2023 Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings.
The University of Venda is overseen by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) under the National Government of South Africa.
