About Tweespruit
Tweespruit was founded as an experimental farm set up on an old British Anglo-Boer War settlement which was between two creeks.
The name Tweespruit, meaning “two creeks” in Afrikaans, refers to the town’s location at the confluence of two creeks (small natural streams of water).
The town lies approximately 24 km east of Thaba ‘Nchu, 44 km north-west of Hobhouse, and 85 km south of Winburg.
Tweespruit is strategically situated close to the N8 National Route between Bloemfontein (the Provincial Capital) and Ladybrand. The town is located approximately 86 km east of Bloemfontein and 49 km west of Ladybrand.
Tweespruit serves as a service centre in support of the predominant agricultural surrounding area and has an excellent agricultural school. The town has one of the highest sunflower production regions in the Free State and in response a large silo complex has been developed in the town. In combination with the station, with its capacity for mass transport of agricultural produce, it forms a positive asset for the town.
