About
Thembisile Hani Local Municipality is geographically located in the western part of the Nkangala District Municipality.
The municipality is named after Thembisile Chris Hani, the 11th Secretary General of the South African Communist Party, who was assassinated on 10 April 1993.
Thembisile Hani Local Municipality covers an area of 2,384 km² (920 square miles), making it the fourth-largest local municipality in the Nkangala District as it accounts for 14% of its geographical area.
The administrative headquarters/seat of Thembisile Hani Local Municipality is in eMpumalanga.
The municipality is divided into 32 wards.
Thembisile Hani Local Municipality is bordered by:
- Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality to the north
- The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng Province to the west and south

- Steve Tshwete Local Municipality to the southeast

According to the 2022 Census, 28.3% of the population is under the age of 15, 65.6% is between 15 and 64, and 6.1% is over 65.

According to the 2022 Census, 99.2% of the population in Thembisile Hani Local Municipality describe themselves as Black African, 0.3% as Indian/Asian, 0.2% as Coloured, and 0.1% as White.
