St Georges Strand is a coastal village located along the Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, approximately 20 km north of Gqeberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth).
This coastal village falls within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.
St Georges Strand is one of Gqeberha’s northernmost suburbs, bordered by Bluewater Bay to the south, Wells Estate to the west, and Coega to the north.
St Georges Strand can be accessed by turning off the N2 National Route (to Gqeberha and Makhanda (formerly known as Grahamstown)) onto King George’s Avenue. King George’s Avenue continues north-westwards as the R335 Regional Route (St George Street) to Motherwell, Wells Estate, Markman, and Addo.
Beach
The beach at St Georges Strand is Gqeberha’s northernmost beach. Swimming at the beach is not advised due to violent waters and waves. This is the reason why the beach is not very often frequented by locals, or is not well-known in the Gqeberha area. However, lifeguards are on duty during the peak/summer holiday season.
