South African Bureau of Standards (SABS)

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is an entity of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) under the National Government of South Africa.

The mission of the South African Bureau of Standards is to provide standards and conformity assessment services to contribute towards the efficient functioning of the economy.

The South African Bureau of Standards is mandated to:

  • Develop, promote and maintain South African National Standards (SANS)
  • Promote quality in connection with commodities, products and services
  • Render conformity assessment services and assist in matters connected therewith
