Seymour, Eastern Cape

Seymour is a town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, situated along the R67 Provincial Route, approximately 7 km north-east of Hertzog (officially renamed Mhlangeni).

The town is located on the Katrivier Dam, 63 km north-west of Dikeni (formerly Alice) by car and 183 km north-west of East London.

Seymour falls within the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality and the Amathole District Municipality.

History

The town was founded in 1853 and named after Colonel Charles Seymour, who served as Military Secretary to the Governor, Sir George Cathcart.
