Pumula is a small seaside village situated along the R102 Regional Route on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa.
Located south of Hibberdene, with only Wood Grange and Umzumbe inbetween, Pumula is located approximately 14 km north-east of Port Shepstone.
Other nearby neighbourhoods are Fairview Mission, Fairview, Entaba, Melville, Sunwich Port, Anerley, and Southport.
Pumula forms part of the Greater Hibberdene area in the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality, which is part of the Ugu District Municipality.
Pumula is one of the very few little seaside villages along this part of the popular Hibiscus coast that has managed to retain something of the wildness one expects from a sub-tropical coast on the Indian Ocean.
Pumula is a brief respite in amongst thick green vegetation and a protected, sandy beach, which manages to retain a natural wild beauty.
Pumula’s beach is, as a result, relatively crowd-free even during peak season, and the beach remains unspoilt. It may not be a swimming beach, but these are minutes away, and it is renowned for its fishing, paddling, and sandcastle building remain firm favourites for families.
Pumula Point is a good place for collecting water in buckets or splashing in the natural tidal pools that form amongst the rocks here, whilst the sandy beach stretches for miles up towards Umzumbe, where there is a monastery.
There is plenty to do around here, too, if the allure of the beach, its beauty still intact, fails to hold you, or if the weather turns. Beautiful Oribi Gorge is not far from here and offers not only gorgeous panoramic views but a variety of walks and hikes that vary from a one-hour stroll to more intensive hikes through forest and up ancient rocks.
There is also a crocodile farm, bird parks, the Wild Coast Casino, and several golf courses in the area that offer a good round of golf.
