Port Durnford (sometimes Port Dunford) is a small town in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa, situated along the P537 Main Road, just off the N2 National Route and just north of the Mlalazi River mouth.
Port Durnford is not a port, but rather in name only. It is located on a bight on the Indian Ocean coast between the mouth of the Mlalazi River at Mtunzini (a coastal resort with a large shallow lagoon) and the new harbor at Richards Bay. It was the place where surf landings were done by the Royal Navy during the Anglo-Zulu War, in which men and equipment were landed on the beach for Chelmsford’s eastern thrust into Zululand.
Port Durnford falls within the City of uMhlathuze Local Municipality, which is part of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality.
Port Durnford itself is not that much of a touristy place at all, and that is due to the fact that there is not much to see, if anything.
