Patensie is a town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, situated along the R331 Regional Route, just south of Noorshoek and east of the Kouga Dam.
The name is Khoi in origin, and means “fatty” alluding to the significant wealth of Indigenous Khoikhoi people the Dutch robbed.
Patensie falls within the Kouga Local Municipality and the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
The town is a centre for the citrus, tobacco, and vegetable farms in the area. Given Patensie’s location in the Gamtoos River Valley, the town provides important services to the surrounding high-density agriculture industry.
