The Naledi Local Municipality comprises 9 wards and covers an area of 7,030 km² (2,714 square miles), making it the second-largest of five local municipalities in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, as it accounts for 16% of its geographical area.

Population

According to the South African National Census of 2022, the Naledi Local Municipality has a population of 63,755 people, compared to 68,803 in 2016 and 66,781 in 2011.

The municipality has a population growth per annum of -0.45%.

According to the 2022 Census, 30.2% of the population is under the age of 15, 64.6% is between 15 and 64, and 5.2% is over 65.

Racial makeup

According to the 2022 Census, 74% of the population in the Greater Taung Local Municipality describe themselves as Black African, 14.7% as Coloured, 9.5% as White, and 1.1% as Indian/Asian.

In the election of 1 November 2021, the African National Congress (ANC) won a majority of 10 seats on the council.
