The Mpumalanga Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is part of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa.

The mission of the Mpumalanga Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is to coordinate, support, monitor and strengthen an integrated cooperative governance system.

The strategic goals of the Mpumalanga Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs are to:

  • Provide political strategic management, and administrative guidance and support to all the programmes of the Department
  • Build a clean, effective, efficient, responsive and accountable local government
  • Strengthen partnerships between local government, communities and civil society
  • Ensure that municipalities meet the basic service needs of communities
  • Strengthen the institutions of traditional leadership to fulfil their mandate
  • Exercise oversight and participate in the legislations of the Provincial Legislature
