LaTique, whose real name is Mfihlakalo Siphesihle Mbanjwa, is a South African DJ, music producer, and entrepreneur from Escort, KwaZulu-Natal.
In 2023, he established his own record label company, RVRE Recordings.
Early life
Mfihlakalo Siphesihle Mbanjwa was born and raised in the southern side of Johannesburg but his ancestral origins are in Estcourt, a small town in Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality in the uThukela District of the KwaZulu-Natal.
Career
LaTique’s music career started in 2012 when he discovered his musical ambitions and skills after being inspired by his brother Cilongo who played a keyboard at church.
LaTique used to love playing around with keys, and he would stand beside his brother the entire time, just so he could see and catch a few skills, especially the basics.
As the years went by, LaTique began having an interest in music production and would spend hours sitting beside his brother while he had his music production sessions.
In 2013, a young LaTique started his music production after getting himself a Pentium 4 desktop computer and production software, “Fruit Loops Studio”, which he still prefers even today.
He would then go on to meet Sifiso Mandlathi “Salvador”, who then introduced him to the likes of Tshepiso Eugine Dondolo (Kiddy Deep) and the late Morena Luther Melato (DJ Cytonik). This is when he got to have his first release on digital platforms, but back then, he was known as “Harmony”.
In 2016, LaTique had to slow down his music career and focus more on academics, as this was the year he completed his matric.
In 2017, the young music producer bounced back to music. The future started looking bright as he would later on release with international labels like DM.Recordings (UK), etc.
LaTique’s career jumped to new levels in 2019 when met other talented and experienced music producers like South Africa’s Deep House Guru, Pierre Johnson.
LaTique and Pierre immediately hit the studio and started recording music, they would go on to release their first collaborative single titled “Money & Power” with one of the biggest labels in South Africa, “Stay True Sounds”. This was a very significant door opener for LaTique as it prepared him for more fire releases in 2020.
LaTique has gone on to work with other music producers like Chronical Deep and Kabza De Small.
LaTique and Chronical Deep share the same manager and booking agent, Phopho.
To date, LaTique has released multiple hit singles, three studio albums, and six Extended Plays (EPs).
