Klipplaat is a town situated at the intersection of the R338 and R339 Regional Routes in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, approximately 75 km south-east of Aberdeen and 185 km north-west of Gqeberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth).
The town takes its name from large slabs of rock on the surface of the ground; from Afrikaans klip: ‘stone’ or ‘rock’; plaat: ‘sheet’ or ‘slab’.
Klipplaat falls within the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality and the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
