Ingogo is a small town in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa, situated along the N11 National Route and on the banks of the Buffalo River (the largest tributary of the Tugela River), approximately 25 km north of Newcastle.
The town’s name is derived from that of the Ngogo River. The form iNgogo has been approved.
Ingogo falls within the Newcastle Local Municipality, which is part of the Amajuba District Municipality.
Ingogo is the site of the Battle of Schuinshoogte (also known as the Battle of Ingogo), which took place on 8 February 1881, during the First Anglo-Boer War, in which British casualties numbered 76 while Boer losses amounted to 8.
