The Gauteng Department of Social Development is the department of the Gauteng Provincial Government mandated to successfully grow and implement programmes for the eradication of poverty, social protection and social development among the poorest of the poor, the most helpless and the sidelined within the Gauteng Province of South Africa, through its partnerships with its primary customers, service recipients and all those sharing its vision.
The vision of the Gauteng Department of Social Development is of a caring and self-reliant society.
The mission of the Gauteng Department of Social Development is to transform Gauteng’s society by building conscious and capable citizens through the provision of integrated social development services.
The strategic outcome-orientated goals of the Gauteng Department of Social Development are to provide:
- Support to core business in rendering effective and efficient services
- Efficient and effective integrated developmental social welfare services to service recipients, focussing on children, the youth, older persons, persons with disabilities, and women
- Efficient, effective anti-poverty community interventions, youth development and women empowerment services to beneficiaries promoting sustainable livelihoods
