The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is the department of the Gauteng Provincial Government responsible for overseeing and regulating the basic education system in the Gauteng Province of South Africa in accordance with the South African Schools Act of 1996.
The vision of the Gauteng Department of Education ncludes smart service delivery of quality public education, to promote a dynamic citizenship for socio-economic growth and development.
The department aims to be at the cutting edge of curriculum delivery, providing access to quality lifelong learning opportunities. The Department is committed to eliminating inequality in education.
The mission of the Gauteng Department of Education is to ensure that quality learning and teaching takes place in the classroom every day.
