About

The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality is geographically located in the northern and eastern regions of the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

The municipality was established after the August 2016 local elections by merging the Fetakgomo and Greater Tubatse local municipalities.

The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality covers an area of 5,693 km² (2,198 square miles), making it the largest local municipality in the Sekhukhune District as it accounts for 42% of its geographical area.

The administrative headquarters/seat of the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality is in Burgersfort.

The municipality is divided into 39 wards.

The vast majority of the area is made up of villages that are scattered throughout the northern part of the municipality.

Population

According to the South African National Census of 2022, the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality has a population of 575,960 people, compared to 489,902 in 2016, and 428,948 in 2011.

The municipality has a population growth per annum of 2.86%.

According to the 2022 Census, 32.7% of the population is under the age of 15, 61.6% is between 15 and 64, and 5.7% is over 65.
