Durban University of Technology (DUT)

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is a multi-campus public university of technology situated in scenic Durban and Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa.

The University was formed in 2002 following the merger of ML Sultan Technikon and Technikon Natal and it was initially known as the Durban Institute of Technology.

DUT is overseen by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) under the National Government of South Africa.

With over 30,000 students in 2025, the Durban University of Technology is focused on higher education, technological training, research and innovation.

DUT also seeks to build an enabling environment that supports dynamic curricula inspiring innovation and entrepreneurship.
