About

The Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Local Municipality was established after the 2016 municipal elections by merging the Kwa Sani and Ingwe local municipalities.

The municipality is named after Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, a medical doctor, politician, and former anti-apartheid activist who was born in the former Natal province.

The Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Local Municipality is geographically located in the northern region of the Harry Gwala District Municipality.

The Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Local Municipality comprises 15 wards and covers an area of 3,602 km² (1,391 square miles), making it the largest of four local municipalities in the Harry Gwala District, as it accounts for just over a third of its geographical area.
