Chronical Deep, whose real name is Thabo Motloang, is a South African music producer and DJ from Phuthaditjhaba, Free State.
Early life
Thabo Motloang was born and raised in Phuthaditjhaba, Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality in Thabo Mofutsanyana District of the Free State province.
He grew up in a household of intellectuals, lawyers, and music enthusiasts.
Thabo always sat mesmerized as his father put on esoteric vinyls like John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, or Miles Davis’ Sketches of Spain.
Career
Chronical Deep’s music journey began at the age of eight when he learnt to play the piano, laying the groundwork for a career that would eventually see him performing at local gigs in his neighbourhood by 17.
He is known for the incorporation of live instruments in his productions.
His relentless pursuit of musical excellence and innovation has since earned him a place among the most respected names in the South African music industry.
But what truly sets him apart is his ability to infuse his productions with live instrumentation, creating an immersive experience that’s as emotionally resonant as it is sonically rich.
Chronical Deep’s name and sound shot to national recognition with the release of his hugely successful Deep House track “Neo” in 2019.
Following up on his 2019 hit single, Thabo has since released two LPs with South African musician and cultural icon Kid Fonque under the record label, Stay True Sounds.
Fast forward to 2024, Chronical Deep is now fully independent and ready to take over the world with his sound.
