Air Chefs Soc Ltd is a subsidiary of South African Airways (SAA) that provides high quality inflight catering service from around the world.
In turn, South African Airways is monitored by the Department of Transport (DOT) under the National Government of South Africa.
Air Chefs have been in the food industry since 1986 and have firmly established ourselves as a market leader in the Southern Africa airline catering industry.
With over 20 years experience in the airline catering business, Air Chefs produces meals to meet their customer’s unique needs.
Air Chefs’ facilities cover over 25,000m² in size, making them the largest in-flight catering company in South Africa with units at all major airports. With close to 700 happy staff, Air Chefs currently produces approximately 50,000 meals and services over 140 flights per day.
A dedicated product development team ensures that Air Chefs provides innovative recipes and the most varied menus, meeting the needs of every taste, dietary need and religious requirement. Guided by the culture of each airline they serve, every meal is prepared with the same commitment to quality and keen eye for freshness.
Air Chefs currently provides services to various international and domestic airlines. The airlines fly to all major continents of the world thus presenting a unique challenge for Air Chefs to produce different types of cuisine from around the world.
Air Chefs also produces a wide range of special meals that cater for the unique dietary, ethnic and religious requirements. Among the special meals that Air Chefs provides include both Kosher and Halaal meals, which the company freshly produces in-house in their respective kitchens.

Working from their three (3) Central Production Units listed above, the enthusiastic and meticulous team of Air Chefs is capable of producing over 50,000 mouth watering meals every day.
Air Chefs has also leveraged it’s airline catering capabilities as a launch pad into the wider food service market. The company now offers a versatile catering service, from providing in-flight meals to its airline clients, to supplying staff restaurant meals to its corporate clients, ready-made meals for contract caterers and a multitude of other food service offerings.

Air Chefs’ dedication to quality is not limited to the kitchen – they also provide a fast, friendly laundry service to their airline customers, priding themrselves on a 24 or 48 hour turnaround time.

Air Chefs’ production facilities operate in adherence to FSSC 22 000 standards in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. FSSC 22 000 is a standard that takes the approach of ISO 9001 as a management system, incorporates the hygiene measures of Prerequisite programs, and adds HACCP principles and criteria.
By being accredited, this means Air Chefs has the best of the management system approach added to the well-established PRP and HACCP programs. To provide food services in a global food market, an internationally consistent standard is a benefit to everyone.
In addition to applying world class standards, Air Chefs utilises its modern fleet of hi-loader trucks and refrigerated vehicles. With these, Air Chefs is able to swiftly transport meals to any client under ideal conditions, giving assurance to their clients of the company’s world class food safety management programme. It also means that food is maintained at proper temperatures and that perishable items are hygienic and safe to be enjoyed by passengers.
