3 suspects killed in gun battle with KZN police in Richmond

KwaZulu-Natal: Three criminal suspects have just been killed in a gun battle with KwaZulu-Natal police and security teams.

The group of criminals – which allegedly tried to shoot their way out of being arrested was located in the Richmond area.

This comes after they shot and wounded a Magma security officer earlier.

The operation included Mid-Illovo SAPS, Magma Security and Investigations, and Fidelity SIU.

A vehicle and AK-47s have also been found at the scene.

This is the car the suspects had abandoned after the earlier shootout with the security guard (F1).

From there, they ran to a nearby community forced an elderly man out of his home, and used it as a hideout.

Within three hours the police and security teams approached the house – located deep in a forest – sparking a gunfight.

There are suspicions the men are involved in CIT robberies and stock theft.

The wounded security official is reportedly recovering well.

Richmond Local Municipality mayor Bonginkosi Ngcongo says criminals are terrorising communities in areas like Nhlakuza.
